Kiteboarding / Windsurfing Season:



May until end of September: Strong South West Trade wind with wind speeds between 15-30kts - during this season the ocean current transports sand along the coast and turns the sea into a light brownish color. A nice swell builds up on the reef 300 m off shore. Beach brake occurs during these months.

December until end of March: northerly winds. They usually kick in shortly after lunch time and blow into sunset. Wind speeds are 13-20kts. The sea is clear and smooth during these months.

Dolphin Watching, Snorkeling Season:

November - April is the season for dolphin watching and snorkeling. During these months large schools of dolphins and occasionally whales pass by on their way to their mating grounds in the northern Golf of Mannar. During this time the sea is calm and clear in the mornings.

Stand Up Paddling, Canoeing Season:

All year round.

Season for cultural trips and visits to the nearby National Parks:

Best to be planned outside the rainy months. (April and November)
