Resorts in Kalpitiya: The last few years saw the arrival of kitesurfing in the northwest province of Sri Lanka. This led to the birth of the first resorts in Kalpitiya and on the nearby Kappalady lagoon.

As the popularity of kitesurfing in the area increased, so word spread about this unique and still relatively untouched part of Sri Lanka. This has led to travellers beginning to visit the region for reasons other than kitesurfing. The area has is now famed for its dolphin watching. Sperm whales can also be seen during dolphin watching tours. The lagoons themselves are very beautiful. They are fantastic for boat tours and stand up paddling.

The area offers miles of undeveloped coastline and empty beaches. Visitors enjoy swimming in the ocean, walking on the beach and stand up paddling in the ocean.
